a little pause 2005/02/01 0/ I decided to stop making screenshots, reviews & videos for now. I'm not quitting the scene at all. It's more like I'm just taking measures to be even more involved in the scene. My other projects now have a higher priority. 1/ Why ? I'm not fed up with making screenshots. I still enjoy looking for new games, still enjoy spotting emulation improvement, still enjoy spotting differences between game clones. I even enjoy making videos of 'Aaronish' 1 fps (fps rate drops when you record videos, so it takes me 10-20 minutes to record a 15s video) romsets, as it's funny and impressive to see them running at full speed. Reviews are fun too, even if I had limited feedback. I wonder who else but me tried and play ALL mame romsets. But all this takes time. much time. Rom Hunting + Rebuild (+ compiling) + run games + take shots + select shots + update screenshots mirrors + update website + write review. Many things are already automated (I created several scripts to report unneeded screenshots, missing screenshots, build screenshots update archive, etc...) but it's not enough yet. not good enough. As I said, my new projects are emu-related, or at least will be useful for emu users. I hope you'll like them even more than my screenshots. 2/ Besides 13038 Screenshots, 5439 games, 2019 Videos, 12 reviews... if someone wants to resume my work during my pause, my best advice is: "you should be able to make a review before taking any screenshot, so that you'll be able to show a good moment of the game. don't run, shoot & quit". (I wrote my reviews while my screenshot session). Before you start dreaming, those 13038 screenshots gave me back $0, and little feedback. Money is not everything, but keep in mind that no one pays for screenshots. Same for Space1. "anybody can do them", they say (but no one takes the time to). Well regarding feedback... that's the internet, you know :) but I don't regret sharing them, helping people to remember old games, discover new ones... Besides, I am against releasing watermarked, encrypted, modified screenshots. It just means "someone will have to do them again" to me. 4/ Sorry for those who relied on me so far. Thanks to people cheering me and giving feedback. Special thanks to CuteButWrong for his incredible support, and to ck for his impressive feedback.
